In this episode, we explore what it looks like to stop repeating what no longer works and do things differently.

I share four journal prompts to help you uncover the habits, relationships, and rules that call for change. Permit yourself to grow into who you're becoming!

Speaker:

How powerful would you feel if here in midlife and beyond, you could simply stop repeating what is no longer working for you? An overhaul where needed, following your own blueprints instead of someone else's. Let's get into this episode, my friend. I'm Karli Newman, your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, Life and Wellness Coach, and Founder of FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®, a community for women in midlife and beyond. I'm so happy to have you here with me. Doing it differently in midlife and beyond. Think about all of the things you've been doing in a certain way for a long time. Things that worked beautifully for you some time ago. No finger-pointing here, my friend. I have things in my life that I've been repeating over and over again, and they're not serving me like they once used to. That's why I created this episode, because I know the things I'm starting to notice here in midlife and beyond, you're starting to notice, too. So let's do this together. We all know that there is comfort in the familiar. Based on personal experience, I've learned that midlife and beyond has a unique way of turning up the volume on what could benefit from change. Maybe you can relate to some of this. A habit that felt really good to you in your 40s feels exhausting now in your 50s. Relationships that once felt like the best in the world, now feel too small. Rules that you've brought with you from your family, your culture, from society, upbringing, rules you never even questioned, suddenly have you thinking, " Why am I doing that? Why am I agreeing with this?" I don't describe these things as a midlife crisis. I would describe them as midlife clarity. It's actually one of my favorite things about this season of life. Getting crystal clear on what I do and don't want. On what is and isn't working. As I'm saying all of this, I'm realizing this sounds like I'm encouraging you to blow up your life, and that is not what I am talking about here, my friend. I'm asking you to take a really deep, honest look at the things that don't make you feel so good anymore, and do it differently. You don't need anything other than yourself and some quiet time to reflect to make this happen, my friend. I have some questions that you can sit with, if you're a journaler, go ahead and write about, to maybe help you bring some things to the surface.

Prompt number one:

What routine or habit are you holding onto that no longer serves you for who you are today?

Prompt number two:

Which relationships in your life reflect the real you? And which ones are keeping you stuck in a role you've outgrown?

Prompt number three:

What rule or rules have you been following that don't feel right anymore?

And prompt number four:

If you were guaranteed success at doing one thing differently, what would it be? This season of life is not about shrinking. It's not about apologizing or fitting into something forced, or something that doesn't work. Midlife and beyond is a time to get honest with yourself, be curious about alternatives, and allowing yourself to grow into the woman you are and the woman you're becoming. You've earned it, my friend. If doing this kind of self-development, personal growth work along with other women who are doing the same sounds like your kind of community, come check out ELEVATE. It's my monthly membership for women in midlife and beyond. It's private, and it's a very supportive community where we go deep together around different themes every single month. You can find out if it's right for you at flipsideofmidlife.com/elevate-membership. I'll include that link in the show notes for you too, my friend. I'd love to know your thoughts about today's episode. If you feel like sharing your answers to any of those four prompts, I'd love to hear what they are, and I'll reply back to you with my answer to the same prompt. You can reach out to me at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. Join me here on Wednesdays for more bite-sized episodes you can apply to your midlife and beyond, and every other Sunday for guided meditations and visualizations. I look forward to meeting you here for all of it. Take care and be well, my friend.
