FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

Hey there, my friend. It's me, Karli, your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, Life and Wellness Coach, and community builder for women in midlife and beyond. Thanks for joining me here for this episode of FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. Today, I'm giving you three ways to create ease in your life. Ease- woof. If we're gonna talk about ease, December is an amazing month to do it. This time of year, tends to be so jam-packed. Whether it's holiday parties, work deadlines, getting ready to take time off over the winter break, and you're stressed, you're exhausted, you're feeling overwhelmed. Ease, my friend, can happen. Today, I'm going to give you three simple ways to make it so. Keep listening, my friend. As promised, I have three ways to create ease in your life. These are easy to implement, high impact, ease-inducing tools. We're starting in December, so if you can make it happen this month, you'll be able to do it all year long. This isn't rocket science, my friend. These are tools you can use pretty much anywhere you are. You just have to remember to do it. So, if you're a note taker, please grab that journal or notebook, write these things down. You can always come back here and listen again whenever you need a reminder. Number one is to take a pause. I like to have a timer preset for two minutes so I can just hit two minutes, go, and I can breathe. I can focus on my breath in. I might do box breathing where I'm inhaling for four counts, holding for four, exhaling for four, and holding for four. That's a lovely way to calm your parasympathetic nervous system. Breathing, my friend, is so valuable. When you feel your emotions spinning, whether it's overwhelm or anger, or you're just feeling upset, those two minutes where you can breathe, focus on your breath. It calms your mind. It calms your body. It allows that cycle of emotion to run through you and to dissipate without being fueled. Number two is to say,'not right now.' You might say it to yourself. You might say it out loud to someone else. If somebody asks you for a request or to do something that just isn't within your bandwidth at the moment you can say,'not right now.' ' I need time before I decide.' ' I'd like to think about that before I give you an answer.' This protects your energy and it removes the urgency, the pressure maybe you're putting on yourself, or that person is expecting of you. This postponement creates ease for you, my friend. You give yourself space. So give yourself a sense of ease by saying those three simple words, 'not right now.' A third way to create ease, my friend, is another form of giving yourself space, and that is lowering the stimulation in your environment. Our environment impacts us in so many ways that we don't always think about. When you find yourself overcomplicating things, overwhelmed, overthinking, think about your environment. Lowering the stimulation in your environment can be very helpful. Whether that's the noise, finding a quiet room or a quiet space, or turning down music, turning down whatever noise is happening in the environment. It might be super bright lighting. You might have too many tabs open on your phone or on your computer. You might be consuming content that is overstimulating for you. Or when you're in a really messy, cluttered environment and you can't focus on anything else, but just getting it clean or straightening up. What is the stimulation that you can eliminate? Revert back to a calm, quiet, softly lit space, a close of the computer, a flip over of the phone. What stimulation is taking you away from ease? All right, there you have it, my friend. Take a pause to allow that emotional cycle to complete and dissipate. Say Not right now. Use those words to yourself. Use those words with others and create more ease. And then lower the stimulation in your environment. These three things relate to giving yourself space. How else might you do that? Maybe it's not overscheduling. Maybe it's committing to one day where you don't have anything scheduled, planned, or to do. You can just be. Well, my friend, it's the beginning of December. If you can create ease this month, focus on these things and practice, you will carry them forward into 2026 and beyond. Stay tuned all month, my friend. December's topic is ease. In my emails and in my episodes, you will be getting content that helps you foster more ease in your life. I encourage you to get onto my email list if you're not already there, and join me again on Wednesdays and every other Sunday for my episodes, too. I'd love to hear from you. I'm at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. Please send me an email. What do you want to share with me? What would you like me to cover in my 2026 episodes? Tell me all about it. I'll be back soon, my friend. Until then, be well.
