FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

Hey there my friend. It's me. Karli, your favorite Gen X dealer of positive vibes, Life and Wellness Coach, and community builder for women in midlife and beyond. It's October and this month through all of my content runs the topic of fear. So far I've busted myths around fear, given you a meditation you can use when fear holds you back, and this week if you got my email, which hopefully you're on my email list, you know that I talked about how fear can help you. I gave you three simple steps you can take when fear starts to hinder you rather than help you. So I'm expanding on that in this podcast episode. How fear can help you. Have you ever thought of it in that way? So the first way fear can help you is deciphering whether it is protecting you or if it's giving you a hint to listen to your intuition. I like to use two words in this scenario. Danger and risk. They're nuanced, but help me decipher which form of action I want to take. So if I am in danger, I'm going to let fear take over and help me with that adrenaline, parasympathetic nervous system response. But if I know fear is showing up, because I am facing some kind of a risk, that's a different requirement. Fear helps me, by giving me that data, that information. Am I in danger or am I facing a risk? Is it life threatening or is it something that is just intimidating me in the form of a risk? Another way that your fear helps you is by motivating you. When you notice in that risk situation, for example, that you are afraid of something that could be really good for you or could have wonderful possibilities on the other side of it, fear can motivate you. Again, my friend, it's up to you to recognize how fear feels in your body and the cues it's giving you about what it means, what it's trying to tell you, the information and the data it is sending you. Another way fear can help you is to really clarify your values, clarify what is most important to you. When you recognize that you have big fears around a certain thing, that probably means you care a lot about it. Here's an example. If fear comes up for me and it's because I am facing a big step out of my comfort zone, I can use that information that fear is sending me to tell me that this is something that's really important and I need to pay attention. I need to dig a little bit deeper and not let fear stop me. Maybe you've encountered a situation like that. Maybe it was going for a new role at your job, maybe it was finding a new job at a different company, maybe an industry switch. Perhaps it was creating a big change in your health so that you could be happier and healthier. But guess what? That stuff is still scary. And this is an instance when instead of letting your fear stop you, perhaps that is a clue for you that this is really important to me. The final way fear helps you that I want to mention is being a reminder that you are here, that you are alive, that you are an important part of this universe. You have special gifts, my friend. When fear does arise in you, why not let this information remind you that you are human, that you are strong, that you are powerful, that you are able to move through difficult things. That you can take a close look at your fear and help it dissipate. Step through it, see fear as your friend. Let's be real. Every day presents us with different things that scare us, intimidate us, and stir up fear in us in one way or another. It's midlife and beyond, after all. Thank you for joining me here today, my friend. I hope that these conversations and the emails that I'm sending out this month help you as you encounter fear in midlife and beyond. I am just so glad that you are part of this community. If you ever have questions, comments, or feedback, please share them with me. I really do love hearing from you- karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. I'll be back next week with a different facet of fear in midlife and beyond. Take care, my friend. I will be back soon.
