FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

Ever catch your breath at something unexpectedly beautiful, my friend? This week's vibe is all about that feeling and the benefits you experience when you lean into it. Welcome to FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. I'm Karli Newman, your favorite GenX dealer of positive vibes, community builder and life and wellness coach for women in midlife and beyond. I'm so happy you're joining me here today. This episode is the fifth and final in a summer series focused on helping you tap into the feel good energy of the season. And we are sealing the deal with the soul lifting vibes of awe. Awe is a powerful emotion that reminds us we are part of something bigger. It quiets the internal noise, snaps you into the present and provides perspective on your relationship to the external world, even if it's for a few fleeting moments. Yes, feeling small can be a good thing! But awe isn't just a cool feeling. There are science backed benefits associated with it. Here are five for you. First awe expands perspective. It's 'I am small' in a good way. It reduces rumination you may be experiencing and it can lessen overwhelm. Think of those moments when you see the mountains or incredibly starry sky or something just so beautiful, like a sunrise or a sunset, and the colors catch you off guard. That my friend are, those feelings of 'the world is so much bigger than me' and it can put those problems and that overwhelm into perspective for you. Another benefit of awe is that it increases life satisfaction. Awe gets you thinking about the meaning of life. I know I feel like this when I look up at the stars. And I wonder how did we figure out what's going on up there? It can help you feel resilient, too. Knowing that there's so much more outside of yourself can give you the strength you need to keep going. A third benefit is that awe helps you connect and experience feelings of community. Feelings like kindness, generosity, compassion. When you experience awe, you know that you are connected to something greater than yourself. That feeling of connection can translate over into your feelings of community. Experiencing awe may improve your physical health. Chemicals are being released in your body. Chemicals that may reduce pain, that boost your mood, which may reduce your tension and your stress. There's too much of that in the world, as we all know. So why not find awe more often and get a boost in your physical health, too? And the last benefit I wanna share with you is that experiencing awe enhances your creativity and your open-mindedness. You increase curiosity. Your mind becomes more open to exploring different, bigger ideas. It encourages more expansive thinking. Remember that benefit the next time you're feeling stuck on a problem or you just can't see how to move forward. Get out to ,see a sunrise or a sunset, a mountain view, or the ocean, the stars, or under the canopy of trees. When we are in nature, those moments of awe expand our minds, our thinking, expand our social connections, our health, our perspective on ourselves and problems we may be processing, overwhelm we may be feeling. Awe is a pretty important thing to get out and experience, my friend. And if you didn't notice, I mentioned a lot of nature. Nature is a place where every person can experience awe. You have other places too, but for a fail safe strategy, experience nature in some way, shape or form, and you will find awe my friend. I'd love to hear how you're finding awe this week. Send me an email at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com to tell me all about it. You can find me looking up at the stars.
