FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®: REWARDS AND DAYDREAMS

Welcome to FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. I'm Karli Newman, your favorite GenX dealer of positive vibes, community builder, and life and wellness coach for women in midlife and beyond. Thank you for joining me, my friend.

Over the past month, you took time to reflect, release, and set a clear intention for how you want to move through the rest of 2025.
In this episode, I'm sharing two steps you can take to wrap up your midyear reset and step into the back half of 2025 with excitement for the possibilities in front of you.

{MUSIC INTRO}

Let's be honest, the last two months of the year can be incredibly stressful. The holiday season and all that comes with it adds a lot to our plates. Travel, gift shopping, meal planning, and family dynamics are layers on top of our typical daily lives. It's not unusual to feel overwhelmed!

In my June 25th email, I shared three steps you can take this week to sketch out the next six months in a way that works for you. If you didn't receive it, I included a link to it in the show notes and transcript. Why not sign up to receive all of my impactful emails while you're there?

So, what are the two additional steps I promised you?

First, add rewards into the months ahead. Based on where you are and where you want to be at year end, what carrots can you dangle in front of yourself?

If you want to proactively set boundaries, prioritize your health, or maybe step outside of your comfort zone, what motivation can you plant along the way that will help you take those first steps? What reward will keep you moving in that direction?

Whatever your goal or desire, what kind of incentive will help you make that possibility a reality? Be honest with yourself. Choose smaller rewards for baby steps, and a big, fat, juicy reward for the cumulative result of those steps.

There's no right or wrong way to do this. You know yourself better than anyone else. What I see as a reward, you may not.

The second step is to spend at least five minutes a day daydreaming - no tech, no agenda, and no interruptions. Make it a ritual that fits into a routine. What will work best for you? This small chunk of time, where you allow your mind to wander, will be a source of calm and inspiration for you. Give yourself the gift of time to just be on a daily basis.

If you feel like you don't have the time, or you find it challenging to quiet your mind, use that twilight space when you're just waking up or you're falling asleep. Keep your eyes closed and just let your mind wander. If you love a break in the middle of the day, daydream time can be an amazing reset.

Again, there's no right or wrong way, my friend. Do what works for you.

These two steps, adding rewards and daydream time to your life, give you things to look forward to. They help you feel energized, motivated, and inspired. Over time, it becomes easier to notice the possibilities and believe you can reach them.

You're shaping a season that feels good to live in. Keep listening to yourself. You already have the wisdom you need.

So, what does all of this have to do with the holiday season that I mentioned at the top of the episode?

Well, if you are preplanned and you take the steps that I listed in the June 25th email, you're going to have a really good idea of what's ahead. Not only on your ‘I need to do this’ list, but, on your ‘I don't want to do this’ list and ‘let's not procrastinate and avoid on this’ list.

It'll be in front of you of how you get to where you want to be at the end of the year. And with that information, you can add in these two steps of planning in rewards and planning in some daydream time to help you stay motivated to get there.

Think of how it might feel to do things differently this year than you have in the past. Think about getting to September 30th, and you know that the next three months are easy breezy for you because you've already thought about it. You've already planned, you've already taken steps that you need to, and you've already set the wheels in motion.

If you want helpful support as you step into the next six months, I invite you to join ELEVATE, my membership for women in midlife and beyond.
