FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

Welcome to FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®. I'm Karli Newman, your favorite GenX dealer of positive vibes, community builder, and life and wellness coach for women in midlife and beyond. I am so happy you joined me here today!
If you're anything like me, it's easy to get excited about a long weekend and immediately start filling it with errands, social activities, or home projects you haven't had time to tackle. I tend to have big ideas about what I can do, and I inevitably crash and burn before most of it even gets started.
I have to catch myself before I over schedule so I can truly enjoy the feelings of a glorious long weekend. Can you relate?
I'm here to encourage you to sign the permission slip. You are allowed to be 100% off during your long weekends. You deserve it! Here's the thing. If you aren't intentional about it, things will probably land on your calendar or a to-do list will form and suddenly that time off becomes time on.
Here are four steps to ensure you feel recharged after a long weekend instead of regretful. You may want to take some notes here, my friend, so grab your journal, notebook, or favorite app.
TIME MARKER 01:33
Here we go.
Step one, choose your mood.
What do you want your long weekend to feel like? Are you feeling the calm and quiet vibe, or do you maybe want high energy and adventure? Maybe it's a mix of both! Let your desired mood guide the rest of your choices.
Step number two, block off time for rest.
Literally, my friend. Go to your calendar and create non-negotiable blocks of rest. Never underestimate the power of seeing that colorful rejuvenation time on your schedule! No need to plan how you will rest. After all, being in the moment during a long weekend is what it's all about. If you have a form of rest that you do want to plan ahead, well, by all means do it! It's your long weekend.
Step number three, reevaluate. As you get closer to your long weekend, check in with your desired mood and what has landed on your calendar or to be list. Do these still align? If not, make shifts, bow out, or choose to say yes. Again, my friend, this is your weekend. You get to decide.
And step number four is to practice a wrap up ritual. What helps you transition from weekend mode to weekday mode? Think about it and build a wrap up ritual around it. Maybe you take a long shower or bath, sit quietly and reflect on the weekend's beautiful moments, or tidy up before heading to bed.
Practice your wrap up ritual after long weekends, regular weekends, and vacations, too!
Use these four steps as is or tailor them to your liking. The idea is to have a strategy in your wellness toolbox that allows you to love your long weekends - during and after.
