Do you find yourself craving a better life balance? Yeah, I've been there too. 

I realized something along my journey in midlife and beyond, and deep inside, you know it too. Balance sounds lovely, but it isn't reality.

Life rarely splits itself into neat, equal parts. Some days, work is everything. Other days, the needs of a parent or partner or pet take over. And then there are the days where you just want to curl up with a book or BritBox and ignore it all, which is totally okay. 

Instead of beating yourself up for not achieving the impossibility of balance, what if you thought of creating harmony instead?

Hi there, my friend, it's me, Karli Newman, GenX woman, community builder, and life and wellness coach for women in midlife and beyond.

Okay, let's get back to creating a life filled with harmony, shall we? 

Think of harmony as the ebb and flow of the different parts of your life working together. It's a kind and gentle way to approach the facets of your life. Think of a stream as it moves over rocks and curves with the terrain following the path of least resistance. As you shift to create harmony, you find space to notice your needs with self-compassion.

This is a good place to grab your journal, notebook, or favorite app, my friend. You may feel like jotting down some notes.

If you're like me, you want to know the benefits of something before you take a leap. So here are three benefits of seeking harmony in your life. First, flexibility and flow. When you stop chasing forever elusive balance, you free yourself from the pressure of having everything equal. Harmony allows for flexibility. It entices you to pivot, and that means less mean girl inner dialogue and an easier flow. 

Another benefit is better alignment with your energy. Some days you wake up ready to take on the world and other days you're running on fumes from the get-go. Harmony lets you honor where you are instead of forcing yourself to maintain an unrealistic pace.

And a third benefit is less guilt, more gratitude. Instead of constantly feeling like you're neglecting parts of your life, harmony helps you appreciate different seasons. It alleviates guilt and creates space to appreciate where you are.

Love how all of that sounds? Here are three ways to create harmony in your daily life. 

Start your day with a harmony check-in. Before the day gets too far along, ask yourself, What do I need to feel at ease today? Maybe you feel like you need a slow morning or a short walk or saying no to an ask.

A second way to create harmony in your daily life is to embrace micro-adjustments. Tiny shifts can make a big impact. If you find yourself feeling stretched too thin or unexpectedly antisocial, ask yourself, how can I embody harmony right now? Harmony isn't about overhauling your life. It's about making small, real-time adjustments. 

And a third way to create harmony in your daily life is to end your day with self-compassion. Instead of wrapping your day with a check-in on what you got done, ask yourself, what felt good today? This simple shift trains your mind to notice the harmony you create and end the day on a positive note. Imagine how you will feel as you create a harmonious life rather than striving for a balanced one.
