Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).

DEEPEN YOUR FOCUS: A GUIDED MEDITATION
You know when you buy a new car and suddenly you see the same car everywhere? Or you have a conversation about a topic or learn a new concept and it shows up multiple times soon after? That is the frequency illusion at work, my friend.

Hi there, my friend, and welcome. I'm Karli Newman, a GenX woman, community builder, and life coach for women in midlife and beyond. Thank you for joining me here.
In those examples I gave, your focus means your mind is primed to notice the new car, the topic, or concept. It's a cognitive bias that results from your brain's desire to find patterns. Why not intentionally use the frequency illusion phenomenon to help you boost your well-being and satisfaction with life?
I created the upcoming meditation to help you use your brain's pattern-finding power and the frequency illusion with intention.
I follow it with a prompt, so have your journal, notebook, or favorite app nearby. Let's begin.

Find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Now close your eyes or lower your gaze if that feels more comfortable for you. Take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it for a moment and exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat that breath. Feel your eyes, jaw, and shoulders relax as you exhale completely.
Repeat once more, and return to a normal breath pattern as you settle into this moment of stillness.
This space is yours. Space to create focus. Space to shift what flows into your realm of awareness. Bring to mind a seed you'd like to plant here today, or one you want to continue to nurture.
What do you want to notice more frequently in your life?
Is it abundance? Opportunities, gratitude, possibilities, self-compassion, joy?
Bring a hand to your heart.
Feel your hand warm and your heart expand as you plant and tend to your seed.
Repeat after me, silently or aloud.
- I am open to seeing more of this in my life.
- I welcome the positive energy that flows to me.
- I trust my seed will grow and flourish for me.
Feel these words settle into your soul.
Allow your hand to rest back in your lap.
Take a deep breath in, and exhale.
As you slowly bring your awareness back to the space around you, allow yourself to bask in the feelings and images that came to you during this meditation.
Wiggle your fingers and toes, roll your shoulders, and gently blink your eyes a few times as you return to now.

What is one small action I can take today to tend to my seed of focus?
Remain open and notice what shows up for you as you nurture this focus. The frequency illusion is sure to illuminate the synchronicities that appear.
