FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® with Karli Newman
Hi there! I'm Karli Newman, and this is my podcast, FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
In my mid-40s, my positive mindset was tested. I felt life was passing me by. I was restless in my career even though I loved my job, and exhausted after years of ignoring my self-care. PLUS the hormonal shifts of perimenopause were affecting me in ways I didn't know or understand.
Externally I maintained a positive attitude. Internally I struggled with changing my life’s direction. I didn't talk about it and it took me years to work through it.
Over time I took some big leaps, including a move back to Arizona. I created a new approach to my life and maximized my innate positivity. That’s how I ended up here - helping women like you tap into your positive mindset and inner expertise to see and seize the possibilities around you. I don’t want you to do this alone!
I’m a certified coach focused on whole-life wellness. I know from personal experience what a transformational time of life this is and how challenging it feels sometimes! I’m here to help you navigate obstacles, uncover how to move forward, and continue your unique journey of personal growth and self-discovery.
I intentionally create short episodes that fit into your busy life and get you thinking about your well-being. I cover topics that the women in this community care about (that's you BTW!).
Wherever you are in midlife and beyond, there’s space here to honor who you’ve been, love who you are, and be excited about who you are becoming.
This is the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® and it's a glorious place to be!
Go ahead...binge all of my episodes. xo Karli

FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®: TAKE YOURSELF ON A DATE
Recently, I stepped out on my husband… and I loved it. It wasn’t the first time either.
But before you get the wrong idea, let me clarify—this was a self-date. And let me tell you, there’s something truly magical about spending intentional, quality time with yourself.
In this episode, I’m sharing why self-dates are one of the best ways to practice self-love, how they shift your mindset, and three unique self-date ideas to inspire you. Whether you’ve never taken yourself on a date or you’re overdue for one, this is your reminder to put it on the calendar this month.
Tune in, get inspired, and start planning your next self-date—you deserve it! xo Karli

Hello, my friend. If you haven't listened before, I'm Karli Newman. I'm a GenX woman, community builder, and life coach for women in midlife and beyond.
Before I tell you more about my little escapade, I want to welcome you to the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® community- a space for women in midlife and beyond. Thank you for being here.
Each of us arrives in midlife with unique life experiences and wisdom. There's so much that we share, too. You may not realize that if you're missing a community where you can share and listen.
You know those feelings you have of being stuck or unsure of your identity when you have an empty nest or loss of a relationship? What about the challenges you experience in perimenopause and menopause? Ever feel like you're lost on how to get your zest for life back? Or maybe you can't find positive women who believe in you and support the change you want to create.
You're not the only one experiencing those things, my friend.
My ELEVATE membership is where you connect with other women who get it, and they want to talk about it, support you, and get your support.
ELEVATE is $25 a month. Because you're already part of the FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE® community, I invite you to join ELEVATE for only $10 for your first month. Go to the link in the show notes and transcript to learn more about ELEVATE and get the promo code that saves you $15 on your first month of membership.
Now, on to the rest of the episode. If I piqued your curiosity about my love life, I have to disappoint you. Unless you already assumed this is about my self-love life.
Have you ever been on a self-date? Aaahhh, you don't have to consider anyone else's preferences. You choose exactly what you want to do, where you want to go, and how long you want to be there. There is no need to make conversation, no pressure to entertain or listen. Your mind can blissfully wander the entire time.
There's something extra special about a self-date, and it's one of my favorite ways to express self-love.
Self-dates can be spontaneous, but my favorite is to plan one and put it on my calendar. I make reservations or appointments, figure out how I want to bookend them, and live with the happy vibes of anticipation leading up to my date.
When you take yourself on a date, you show up for yourself in a really big way. If you've never taken yourself on a date before, I'm here to encourage you to step out of your self-love comfort zone and plan one this month. Here are three ideas to inspire you for your next self-date.
TIME MARKER 02:55
An art and inspiration date is the first one. Visit a local museum, gallery, or botanical garden. Wander at your own pace, soak in the beauty, creativity, and inspiration that's around you. Take photos and bring a journal. Maybe you can find a quiet spot to sit and write about your experience in the midst of all of that beauty. Write about how your self-love is being expressed in that moment.
A second kind of date you might want to go on is a live music or comedy date. Find a concert or a comedy show and enjoy being entertained. Why not get a meal at your favorite restaurant or one you want to try? Schedule a ride share so you don't have to think about where you're going, how to get there, where the one-way streets are, or parking once you arrive. Door-to-door service. It's an act of self-love, my friends.
And a third kind of date is a treasure hunt date. I love these. Head to a flea market, antique shop, book fair, or art festival with no agenda other than to explore. Meander through. Notice what speaks to you. It might be a book, a piece of jewelry, or a little treasure that helps you remember the day. You don't even have to make a purchase. Notice where you get inspired, take your pictures, write in a journal. Use this as just a relaxing, calm, no-agenda kind of date.
Now it's your turn, my friend. Choose any kind of self-date that sounds dreamy to you. Whether it's one of the above or something else you come up with, put it on your calendar and make it happen before the end of the month. While you're at it, why not put next month's on the calendar, too?
Make self-dates part of your consistent self-love practice. It's not selfish. It's an act of self-care, self-respect, and self-celebration. You deserve it.
Are you planning a self-date? Or have you already taken one? I'd love to hear about it. Leave a comment or share it with me privately at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com.
Thank you for listening today. As always, I'm here cheering you on as you travel through midlife and beyond. I'll be back next Wednesday with another episode of FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.
Until then, enjoy planning your self-date.
