FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®: 366 DAYS OF LIFE

Your calendar holds more than just appointments and to do lists, my friend. It happens to be a snapshot of your life, full of stories, patterns, and lessons.

That's right, a review of your calendar for 2024 is an impactful way to reflect compassionately.

{MUSIC INTRO}

Thank you for tuning in to another episode of FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®, my friend. This month I'm sharing ways to look back on the year with kindness and compassion rather than criticism.

In the last episode I gave you a few prompts to use as you reflected on 2024 using your photo roll. I encourage you to go back and listen if you missed it.

Today I'm here to encourage you to use your calendar as a reflection tool. It's helpful to have your journal, notebook, or favorite app nearby to jot down your thoughts as you go. I'll drop a time marker right here.

TIME MARKER 00:54

Find a quiet and comfortable spot where you can thoughtfully review the last 12 months.

Start at the beginning of the year and read through the events, tasks, meetings, and notes you captured. When something jumps out at you, pause to remember the details and think about why that item caused you to pause.

As you move through the months, consider how the seeds you planted at the beginning of the year grew, or maybe they never did germinate.

Recognize where you learned and where you have more to learn. Compassionately review things that didn't go as you hoped. Celebrate what was amazing!

Where do you see examples of your resilience, growth, and unique gifts? What opportunities extend into 2025?

As promised in my email this week, I have one more big thing to think about as you use your calendar to reflect on 2024.

If you're not getting my emails, well, you need to go back to the show notes or transcript and click on that link to join the list.

Okay? Are you ready for this?

What does your calendar tell you about how you are living life?

Yeah, it's a big one. Take a gentle and compassionate approach to this question, my friend. DO NOT judge what you see.

How did you spend your time and energy in 2024? Did your commitments align with your priorities? Did you carve out space for things that bring you joy, meaning, or fulfillment? Where were the places your calendar felt overrun with obligations that didn't serve you? And what is missing from the picture?

The objective for this exercise is to gain clarity, my friend. Be honest with yourself. But again, be kind and compassionate, too.

Your calendar can reveal patterns and gaps you don't notice without looking for them. These valuable insights can guide you into 2025.

Based on your realizations, what shifts will you make to live life more fully next year? How might you use your calendar differently to illuminate patterns and gaps sooner?

Think about how you want to feel a year from now and the quality of life you want to foster going forward. Your calendar is a tool to help you get there.

Notice, my friend, the picture your calendar paints of your life. Imagine the possibilities that abound as you paint the 365 days of 2025.

In midlife and beyond, you crave a full life now, not later. Year-end reflection done compassionately gives you what you need to create that full life in the year to come.

As always, I'm here cheering you on as you travel through midlife and beyond. I love to hear your thoughts and experiences, so send them to me at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com.

Thanks for listening. I'll be back next week when I cover another way to gently reflect on the past year.
