As the year winds down, I’m moving into reflection mode. I encourage you to do the same!

Take a gentle approach as you look back, my friend. It’s a gift to look at the past with compassion instead of criticism.

At time marker 01:11, I share three prompts you can use to kick-start your gentle reflections:
✨ What moments in 2024 brought you joy?
✨ What challenges stretched you, and what lessons emerged?
✨ How did you show up for yourself in 2024?

I’d love to hear what comes up for you—reach out at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. And if this episode speaks to you, share it with a woman in your life who might find it helpful too.

Reflect gently on 2024, my friend. xo Karli✨

MIDLIFE MUSINGS: LOOK BACK, GENTLY

Today, I invite you into a space of compassionate reflection.

{MUSIC INTRO}

Hi there, my friend. It's me, Karli. Thanks for listening to my MIDLIFE MUSINGS

If you caught my email that aligns with this episode, you know that the final calendar turn of the year cues me to shift gears. For the past few weeks, I've been looking ahead, and now I'm ready to settle into a reflective zone.

December just feels like a quiet invitation to look back. This month is an opportunity to acknowledge what the year held for you, notice how you've grown, and see opportunities to learn. Reflection can cross the line into harsh territory if you forget to approach it with kindness and self-compassion.

There was a time before my years in midlife and beyond when the unchecked boxes on my to-do lists and the missed mileposts would put me in a funk.

Now that I'm wiser, I take a gentler approach to how I look back. I thought a few prompts might help kickstart your gentle reflections for 2024. You may find it helpful to have your calendar, planner, journal, and photos close by, my friend.

TIME MARKER 01:11

Here's the first prompt. What moments in 2024 brought you joy? Think back to the big and little things that made your heart light up this year.

What inspired you to take a photo? Who joined you on adventures? When was solitude the source of your joy?

This prompt helps you see the joy you've accumulated this year and how much of it is packed into moments you didn't plan or expect. It can sit with you as a reminder to stay open to those unexpected, joy-filled moments in the next year, too.

The second prompt, what challenges stretched you, and what lessons emerged? Compassionately reflect on the harder times of 2024.

Roadblocks and detours often hold impactful lessons, but they may take time to see. This is an opportunity to postpone judgment and notice how you grew through difficulties. You may find proof of your resilience or a blind spot you didn't know existed.

This prompt helps you practice self-kindness and self-gratitude, which are additional ways to gently approach year end reflections.

And the third prompt, how did you show up for yourself in 2024? Think back to when you chose yourself this year.

When did you set and stick to boundaries? How did you practice self-care? Where did you carve out time for activities you enjoy or to be rather than do?

This prompt helps you celebrate the moments when you stood up for yourself. It also builds your awareness of where you can show up for yourself in new ways in 2025.

These prompts are only a starting point, my friend, and I encourage you to continue your gentle reflections in any way that feels best for you.

As always, I'd love to hear what comes up for you. Feel free to reach out at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com - I'm just a message away.

If you found this episode helpful, please share it with a friend, colleague, or sister. I'll be back with another MIDLIFE MUSINGS in two weeks. Until then, gently reflect and catch my Wednesday episodes of FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE™.
