In this episode, I share how I realized I felt differently about the holidays. I hope it inspires you to reflect on what feels different for you.

I wanted a tool to help me plan rather than procrastinate this year, so I created a unique holiday planner. It's also helping me prioritize self-care and practice gratitude throughout the season. I'm not keeping it to myself!

MIDLIFE MUSINGS: THE HOLIDAYS ARE DIFFERENT IN MIDLIFE & BEYOND

Hi there, my friend. It's me, Karli. Thanks for listening to my MIDLIFE MUSINGS

{MUSIC INTRO}

Before you know it, it will be time to count down the seconds to 2025. Or, if you're like me, you'll celebrate with an earlier time zone and head to bed with earplugs to sleep through the neighborhood fireworks. It's so loud in my neighborhood!

I've been thinking about the holiday season quite a bit lately. I feel like Halloween sneaks up on me. Then I realize Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. Then I'm hit with a flood of stress hormones because the December holidays are only a few weeks after that and I am not ready!

I don't mention this to cause you angst or overwhelm about the holiday season, my friend. I say this because we are in this together. You and I are different than we have been. As we change, we notice where our thoughts and feelings are changing, too.

A few years ago, I noticed my feelings about the holiday season were different. It made sense when I thought about it. I had beliefs and expectations I was clinging to, and they didn't match where I was in life. I had this vision of what my ‘perfect’ holiday season should look like, and it didn't fit anymore.

Looking back, I don't think it ever did fit. I spent years trying to force my ‘square’ vision into life's ‘round’ reality, and it had come to a point where this misalignment was causing me to avoid and procrastinate rather than plan and be present.

I'll never know what I missed by holding on to rigid expectations in the past. Now, I want to simplify, create ease, and be mindful of what is most important to me. I know I crave time with people I love, but I want time for myself, too. I want to appreciate and enjoy this time of year, not feel stressed out.

I'm doing my best to tweak my approach this year. Actually, I'm doing my best to define what my approach is this year. Instead of avoiding and procrastinating like I have the past few, I'm tapping into the part of me that loves a good plan. I'm using a holiday planner to keep me moving forward and keep stress levels low.

It's a unique planner that I created to match my midlife and beyond feelings about the holiday season. I included pages to help me prioritize self-care, plan gift-giving and meals, and practice gratitude. There's a grocery list, to-do list, supply list, and a greeting card list, which I'm not using this year, but maybe I will in the future. Who knows?

There's a page to remind me to simplify, and another to jot down notes and reminders for next year. It's pretty much everything I need to feel prepared and supported while giving me space to be flexible and present in the holiday season. It's too good to keep to myself.

If my Made for Midlife and Beyond’ Holiday Planner sounds like something you want to use, then by all means do, my friend.

I'm all about sharing. Find the link in the show notes or transcript to download my holiday planner and start using it today.
